CAD stands for “Computer-Aided Design”.  Although CAD refers to any software used to aid design, if you ask someone in Australia what CAD is they will most probably respond with “AutoCAD”. AutoCAD is created by Autodesk and is one of the oldest and most well known CAD packages in Australia and probably the rest of the world. So to answer the question of “What is CAD?”, CAD is a computer program used to help engineers, architects and draftsmen to create designs, plans and drawings but commonly refers specifically to AutoCAD.
